Lactocal-F Review
Is Lactocal-F a high quality prenatal vitamin?
Lactocal-F's selling point is that it contains Iron in the form of ferrous fumarate which is apparently well "tolerated and effective". Ferrous fumarate has a lower incidence of GI side effects compared to ferrous sulfate. Lactocal-F also has 1 full mg of folic acid which is standard for prescription prenatal vitamins these days. Do these two factors make Lactocal-F a high quality prenatal multivitamin? Hardly. While these two factors are important, I am not impressed. To be considered a high quality prenatal vitamin it would have to contain higher quality ingredients in addition to the standard ones found in most prenatal these days. I would like to see Lactocal-F increase the amount of calcium, lower the amount of iron and add quality ingredients like DHA, Co-Q10, chromium polynicotinate, choline and more anti-nausea ingredients like ginger and probiotics. The bar has been raised and prenatal vitamins are constantly advancing, your typical prenatal vitamins are no longer good enough. With so many things that can go wrong during pregnancy, it is our responsibility to do everything we possibly can to ensure our babies are healthy. ....stepping off my soap box. Lets move on!
Is Lactocal-F Safe?
Lactocal-F is a safe prenatal vitamin, it comes with a handful of mild side effects, as do most lower quality prenatal vitamins. Avoid taking your dosages too close together, you want to avoid taking too much Vitamin A and iron. An iron overdose is the leading cause of fatal poisoning in children under 6.
