One Source Prenatal Vitamin Review

Is One Source Prenatal Vitamin a high quality prenatal vitamin?

One Source Prenatal vitamin was a WalMart manufactured prenatal vitamin. One Source prenatal vitamin came in tablet form that was to be taken two times per day. Women loved these vitamins because they claimed they did not cause nausea, which is a huge issue for expectant mothers. WalMart discontinued making One Source prenatal vitamins, and have left consumers wondering why?

One Source Prenatal vitamins contained your typical pregnancy nutrients like folic acid, iron and calcium. One Source did not contain any high-end ingredients, that combined with a poor absorption rate made them a lower-quality prenatal vitamin.

Is One Source Prenatal Vitamin Safe?

One Source prenatal vitamins were considered safe, we have not heard of any reports saying otherwise, but we question why such a popular prenatal vitamin would be removed from the market?

It is what One Source lacked that concerned us. One Source did not contain one of the key pregnancy nutrients, DHA. It also did not have any high ingredients like, CoQ-10 to prevent pre-eclampsia, the #1 fetal and maternal killer. One Source also lacked probiotics. Probiotics are proven to prevent childhood obesity. Probiotics also benefit moms as well, women who take probiotics gain a lot less weight when they are pregnant making it easier for them to bounce back post partum. Probiotics also help prevent eczema in children by 46%, ecczema effects tens of thousands of babies every year.

One Source Prenatal Vitamin Ingredients

Undisclosed

One Source Prenatal Vitamin Pros

Helps reduce nausea

Cheap

One Source Prenatal Vitamin Cons

No longer available

Does not contain DHA

No high-end ingredients

Low absorption rate

The Bottom Line…

It is safe to assume that there is a good reason WalMart decided to no longer carry One Source. After contacting the company we were unable to get a solid reason as to why. It is hard to find a prenatal vitamin that will not cause nausea, if this is important to you we suggest finding a high-end prenatal vitamin like Trimedisyn that contains ingredients like ginger root, vitamin B6 and a 1 billion cfu blend of probiotics to help alleviate even the most severe morning sickness, and it will not cause any additional nausea like most prenatal vitamins.

The Bottom Line…

Sound Formulas Review

Is Sound Formula a high quality prenatal vitamin?

Sound Formula's Before Baby System consists of 3 different products, Multi-Nutrient Formula, Essential Oils, and Nighttime Formula. You take each product throughout your day, for a total of 9 capsules. The Multi-Nutrient Formula provides you with all the key pregnancy nutrients, except calcium, that is included in your nighttime formula. It also has a proprietary blend (another way for manufacturers to hide ingredient amounts) of some high-end ingredients like, CoQ-10, Choline, Inositol, and Ginger Root extract. The Essential Oils formula consists of mainly of EPA and DHA, which are great ingredients for brain development and vision. The nighttime formula is where you will get your calcium and Magnesium.

Is Sound Formula Safe?

If taken as directed, Sound Formulas Before Baby Boost System is a safe prenatal vitamin. We are disappointed that it only contains 46% of the RDA of Calcium. Calcium is one of the most important nutrients in a prenatal vitamin. If your baby is deficient, so are you and that can be detrimental to your health.

We are thrilled to find another prenatal vitamin that contains high-end ingredients like CoQ-10, Inositol, Choline, and Ginger Root. What concerns us is that they are all part of a proprietary blend. Supplement manufacturers use proprietary blends to hide something, usually it is the amount of certain ingredients. The law requires proprietary blends to be listed in order of greatest quantity to least quantity. Where do Ginger Root and CoQ-10 fall in Sound Formulas Before Baby Boost Prenatal Vitamin? Exactly where we thought, and the very bottom. Why? These ingredients are really expensive. Sound Formulas, be proud of your prenatal vitamin. Mothers have the right to know how much of each ingredient they are taking. It is of the utmost importance for mothers and their children. Again, it is great that Sound Formulas added CoQ-10 to their formula, it helps prevent preeclampsia, the #1 maternal and fetal killer, but I would bet my life savings that Sound Formulas does not contain the clinically proven amount of 200 milligrams of CoQ-10.

Sound Formula Ingredients

Before Baby Boost™ System- Multi-Nutrient Formula

Ingredients: Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, Vitamin K, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Pyridoxine HCl, Pyridoxal 5-Phosphate, Folic Acid, Vitamin B12, Biotin, Pantothenic Acid, Iron, Iodine, Zinc, Selenium, Copper, Manganese, Chromium, Molybdenum, Potassium

Proprietarty Blend: Choline Bitartrate, Inositol, Citrus Bioflavanoids, Rutin, Ginger Root Extract, Papain, Alpha Lipoic Acid, CoQ-10, Boron Citrate/Aspartate

Other Ingredients: Gelatin capsule, Magnesium Stearate, Silica, Rice Powder

Before Baby Boost™ System- Essential Oils

Ingredients: EPA, DHA, Other Omega 3 Fatty Acids

Proprietary Blend: Rosemary Extract, Vitamin C, Vitamin E

Other Ingredients: Gelatin Capsule, Magnesium Stearate

Before Baby Boost™ System- Nighttime Formula

Ingredients: Calcium, Magnesium

Other Ingredients: Gelatin Capsule, Magnesium Stearate

Sound Formula Pros

Contains the top 4 pregnancy vitamins, folic acid, iron, calcium, and DHA (if you purchase all three products)

Contains Ginger Root to help alleviate morning sickness

Contains CoQ-10

Helps prevent birth defects

Helps prevent Toxemia

Sound Formula Cons

Only contains 46% of the RDA of Calcium

CoQ-10, Ginger, Inositol, and Choline are part of a "proprietary blend"

No Probiotics

No Satisfaction Guarantee

The Bottom Line…

Sound Formulas Before Baby Boost System is one of my favorite prenatal vitamins, it is on my Top 10 list of prenatal vitamins on the market. It is in the top 5%-10%, which is a great place to be, but it definitely is not the best. The top prenatal vitamin, Prenatalgyn contains 130% of the RDA of calcium and Trimedisyn contains 100% plus 200 milligrams of CoQ-10 (the clinically proven dosage to prevent preeclamspia). I personally recommend Trimedisyn and plan on using it when I have my next baby, if times are tough I will settle for Prenatalgyn.

Stuart Prenatal Plus Review

Is Stuart Prenatal Plus a high quality prenatal vitamin?

Stuart Prenatal Plus is a tablet form prenatal vitamin that contains your basic vitamins and nutrients, specifically Folic Acid, Iron and Calcium. Stuart Prenatal Plus forgot to put in the other key ingredient, DHA and it only contains 15% of the recommended daily allowance of Calcium, one of the most important pregnancy nutrients. Stuart Prenatal Plus does not contain any high-end ingredients like CoQ-10, Inositol, Ginger Root, Choline or a probiotic blend, so we do not consider this prenatal vitamin a high quality vitamin.

Is Stuart Prenatal Plus Safe?

Stuart Prenatal Plus has a safe amount of Vitamin A, and does not contain any artificial colors or flavorings, so we do consider it to be a safe product. However, we are concerned that it lacks certain vitamins and nutrients. First, Calcium, it only has 15% of the calcium that you and your baby need to be healthy. If your baby does not get enough calcium they will take it from your body leaving you susceptible to osteoprosis, and brittle bones. Another crucial nutrient that is missing is Biotin. Biotin deficiencies are believed to be the cause of birth defects.

Stuart Prenatal Plus Ingredients

Calcium Carbonate, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Ferrous Fumarate (Iron), Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, Gelatin, Di Alpha Tocopherol Acetate (Vitamin E), Microcrystalline Cellulose, Zinc Oxide, Acacia, Niacinamide, Croscarmellose Sodium, Titanium Dioxide, Di Calcium Phosphate, Corn Starch, Magnesium Stearate, Sucrose, Polyethylene Glycol, Pyridoxine HCl, Beta Carotene, Thiamine Mononitrate, Riboflavin, Silicon Dioxide, Folic Acid (Folate), Ascorbyl Palmitate (Vitamin C), Red Iron Oxide, Sodium Ascorbate, Di Alpha Tocopherol Acetate (Vitamin E), Polysorbate 80, Sorbic Acid, Mixed Glycerides, Sodium Benzoate, Carnauba (Copernicia Cerifera) Wax, Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3), Cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12), BHT, Sodium Aluminum Silicate

Stuart Prenatal Plus Pros

Meets or exceeds the RDA of Folic Acid and Iron

Helps prevent Neural Tube Defects

Stuart Prenatal Plus Cons

Calcium content is only 15% of the RDA

No DHA

No Biotin

Does not help alleviate morning sickness

No high-end ingredients

No Satisfaction Guarantee

The Bottom Line…

Stuart Prenatal Vitamins is a decent prenatal vitamin. It does contain 3 of the 4 key pregnancy vitamins but it also lacks a handful of ingredients that make up a high end prenatal vitamin. In order to get 100% of all the vitamins and mineral you and your baby need you would have to take several other supplements to make up for it, and that would be very costly. We recommend trying one of the Top Rated Prenatal Vitamins to save you the hassle.

Nature Made Multi Prenatal Review

Is Nature Made Multi Prenatal a high quality prenatal vitamin?

Nature Made Multi Prenatal is a tablet form prenatal vitamin. Tablet form pills have the lowest absorption compared to liquid and capsule vitamins. While nature made has a 800 mcg's of folic acid and 150% of iron it only contains 19% of the recommended allowance of Calcium. Calcium is crucial for the health of you and your baby, if your baby isn't getting enough they will strip you of your supply. Make sure you are taking a separate calcium supplement to make up for it. Another nutrient Nature Made lacks is DHA, DHA is one of the four most key pregnancy nutrients. Nature Made Multi Prenatal does not contain any high-end ingredients like Ginger Root, Inositol, Choline or a Probiotic Blend.

Is Nature Made Multi Prenatal Safe?

Nature Made Multi Prenatal vitamin has the perfect amount of Vitamin A, Folic Acid, and Iron. Nature Made Multi Prenatal does not contain any artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, yeast or gluten. It is what isn't in Nature Made Multi Prenatal that concerns me. Nature made does not contain any biotin, birth defects are directly related to biotin deficiencies.

Nature Made Multi Prenatal Ingredients

Calcium Carbonate, Cellulose Gel, Ascorbic Acid, Ferrous Fumarate, Zinc Oxide, Maltodextrin, Niacinamide, Corn Starch, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, Croscarmellose Sodium, dl-Alpha Tocopheryl Acetate, Silicon Dioxide, Magnesium Stearate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Beta Carotene, Thiamin Mononitrate, Riboflavin, Polyethylene Glycol, Folic Acid, Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol), Cyanocobalamin.

Nature Made Multi Prenatal Pros

Contains 800 mcg Folic Acid

150% of your daily Iron

Helps prevent neural tube defects

Nature Made Multi Prenatal Cons

No DHA

No Biotin

No high-end ingredients

Low in Calcium

Does not help alleviate morning sickness

May cause upset stomach and nausea

The Bottom Line…

Nature Made Multi Prenatal is your average prenatal vitamin. It lacks key prenatal vitamins and nutrients that are essential for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby. I would not recommend this prenatal vitamin. Invest in your baby's health, as well as yours. Do not settle for anything but the best, your baby's future as and your well being depends on it.

Rainbow Light Complete Prenatal System Review

Is Complete Prenatal System by Rainbow Light a high quality prenatal vitamin?

Complete Prenatal System by rainbow light is one of the top selling prenatal vitamins. It contains high-end ingredients like probiotics, Inositol, and sufficient amounts of key nutrients like Folic Acid, Iron, Biotin, B vitamins and chromium. The only thing this prenatal vitamin lacks is DHA and CO-Q10. It was so close to getting the high-end status. Regardless we are impressed with their superfood blend, and digestive support complex.

Is Complete Prenatal System by Rainbow Light Safe?

Rainbow Light Complete Prenatal System is about as safe as they come. There are no ingredients that will cause a threat to the health of you and your baby. It's what Rainbow Light Complete Prenatal System doesn't contain that worries us. Even women who take the RDA of calcium still lack the amount of calcium needed to sustain them and their developing baby. Rainbow Light only contains 77% of the RDA, granted this is higher than a lot of prenatal vitamins but it is not acceptable by our standards. Calcium is one of the 4 crucial nutrients that you and your baby need, if you are lacking calcium your baby will literally take it from your bones, leaving you vulnerable to diseases like osteoporosis, and brittle bones.

Complete Prenatal System by Rainbow Light Ingredients

Ingredients: Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin D3, Vitamin E, Vitamin K, Vitamin B1, Riboflavin, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Folic Acid, Vitamin B12, Biotin, Vitamin B5, Calcium, Iron, Iodine, Magnesium, Zinc, Selenium, Copper, Manganese, Chromium, Molybdenum, Potassium, Lemon Bioflanoid Complex, Rutin, Choline, Inositol, PABA, Lactobacillus Sporogenes

Digestive Support Complex: Protease, Amylase, Lipase, Cellulase, Betaine HCl

Superfood Vitality Blend: Organic Spirulina, Alfalfa Concentrate, Chlorella

Gentle Prenatal Proprietary Blend: Red Raspberry Extract, Chamomile Extract, Ginger Fresh Juice Extract

Complete Prenatal System by Rainbow Light Pros

Contains Probiotics

Helps prevent birth defects and pre-term labor

Significant amount of Biotin and Vitamin D3

1 mg of Folic acid

No prescription required

Gentle on the stomach

May improve digestion

Complete Prenatal System by Rainbow Light Cons

Pills are in tablet form which have slower absorption rates

Serving size equals 6 hard to swallow tablets

Does not have the RDA of Calcium

Has over 66% fewer probiotics than the leading brand

The Bottom Line…

Rainbow Light has a reputation for producing some of the top prenatal vitamins. While this isn't the best prenatal vitamin, it comes pretty close. You and your baby will get good quality nutrition with a prenatal vitamin like Rainbow Light Complete Prenatal System. There is still room for improvement, but Rainbow Light knows how to produce quality prenatal vitamins. There are a few things that Rainbow Light could do to improve this product, like adding high-end ingredients CoQ-10 and DHA. A larger Probiotic blend would also be beneficial. Tests also show tablet form vitamins are harder to swallow and they do not absorb as fast as capsule or liquid form vitamins. Rainbow light is a nearly perfect prenatal vitamin and comes recommended by PrenatalVitamins.net

CitraCal Prenatal RX Vitamin Review

Is CitraCal Prenatal RX Vitamins a high quality prenatal vitamin?

CitraCal Prenatal is a prescription strength one-a-day prenatal vitamin. Does prescription always equal quality? Not neccessarily, it simply means it contains 1 mg or more of folic acid. While folic acid is important to your baby's development so is calcium, iron, and high-end ingredients like Inositol, DHA, and Probiotics. Not only will these high-end ingrecients benefit your babys health for years to come, they will also improve your over-all health and well being as well.

How many high-end ingredients does CitraCal contian? ZERO.

Is CitraCal Prenatal RX Vitamins Safe?

CitraCal Prenatal Vitamin has a safe amount of Vitamin A that will not cause a toxic overdose, nor does it contain any other ingredients that would pose a threat to your health or your baby's. CitraCal does contain a sufficient amount of Vitamin D3 which is helpful in preventing pre-term labor and low birth weight babies.

CitraCal Prenatal RX Vitamins Ingredients

Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron, Vitamin D3, Vitamin E, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacinamide, Pyridoxine HCl, Folic Acid, Iodine, Zinc, Copper, Docusate Sodium

CitraCal Prenatal RX Vitamins Pros

Contains key ingredients like Calcium, Iron, and Folic Acid

Contains 1 mg of Folic Acid

Helps prevent birth defects

Helps prevent pre-term labor

CitraCal Prenatal RX Vitamins Cons

Lacks high end ingredients like DHA, CoQ-10, Inositol, Biotin, Ginger Root

No Probiotics

Requires a Prescription

Hard to swallow

The Bottom Line…

CitraCal Prenatal Rx is a safe prescription strength over the counter prenatal vitamin. You only have to take it once per day, which usually means it is HUGE! If you have a hard time swallowing horse pills this may not sit well with you. You may want to find a prenatal vitamin that you can take throughout the day in smaller capsule form.

CitraCal has yet to jump into the high-end prenatal vitamin market. Today women are demanding more from their prenatal vitamins especially with all the studies that have come out regarding the benefits of ingredients like CoQ-10, Probiotics and DHA. Do not underestimate the power of a high-end prenatal vitamin. Your baby is counting on you to provide him or her with the vitamins and nutrients that they need to fully develop. Do not neglect taking a quality prenatal vitamin, you and your baby deserve to have a long, healthy, happy life together.

What is Biotin?

Biotin is a water-soluble vitamin and is required for all living organisms. Biotin plays a role in assisting the metabolism of carbohydrates and fats. A biotic deficiency may impair the immune system, cause dry scaly skin. According to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 50% of pregnant women are deficient in Biotin, and a biotin deficiency may increase the risk of birth defects. It is assumed that biotin deficiencies are rare since biotin is found in a variety of foods, however, a recent study suggests that subtle form of biotin deficiency occurs during pregnancy. This is a result of the increased demand for nutrients placed on the mother.

Benefits of Biotin

Research suggests that pregnant women who lack the B vitamin, biotin, increase their risk of having a child with birth defects. It is possible that a biotin deficiency could be the cause of birth defects in humans.Biotin is also used for other health conditions like high blood sugar. Biotin helps repair nerve damage in diabetics and over time may improve dry hair, skin and nails.

Best Source of Biotin

Biotin can be found in milk, soy, and egg yolk (raw egg yolks block biotin absorption). Biotin can also be found in bacteria that live in your digestive tract. If you choose to supplement with Biotin, pregnant women should take 400mcg. You can find effective dosages of Biotin in a high-quality prenatal vitamin. Help reduce the risk of birth defects by taking one of our Top 2 prenatal vitamins.

What is Selenium?

Selenium is a trace element found in soil, that is absorbed by plants, crops and grazing animals, that plays an important role in protecting the body from disease and illness. Selenium is essential for multiple body processes and is present in every cell. Selenium will detoxify toxic metals like mercury and arsenic, and continually fights against free radical cell damage protecting you from cancer, aging and heart disease. Selenium is the only mineral that qualifies for an FDA-approved qualified health claim for general cancer reduction incidence. Pregnant women have a higher need for selenium, low levels of selenium have been linked to miscarriages during the first trimester.

Benefits of Selenium

Recent studies imply that low levels of selenium increased the risk of developing pre-eclampsia by up to four times. When combined with Iron, Selenium plays a role in decreasing the risk of early childhood wheezing and eczema. A study showed that children with the highest amount of selenium in their umbilical cord tissue at birth were less likely to wheeze and to have eczema.

Sources of Selenium

Selenium is present in foods like poultry, oats, brown rice, brazil nuts and seafood. The amount of selenium in these foods ultimately depend on the amount of selenium in the soil in which they have been grown. You can also take a Selenium supplement, pregnant women should take up to 200mcg to improve muscle weakness and fatigue. If you take too much selenium it could cause depression, nausea, fatigue, loss of hair, halitosis, and nervousness. We suggest taking a high-quality prenatal vitamin to ensure you and your baby get the correct dosage of Selenium.

What is Co-Q10?

CoEnzyme Q10, or Ubiquinone, comes from the word ubiquitous, which means “found every where”. Coenzyme Q10 is a fat-soluble nutrient found in the mitochondria, which are small bodies within cells that produce energy. CoQ10 also stabilizes cell membranes and acts as an antioxidant destroying free radicals. Free radicals are believed to contribute to the aging process, as well as the development of heart disease and cancer. CoQ10 has the ability to neutralize free radicals and may even reduce or even help prevent some of the damage they cause.

CoQ10 Studies

CoQ10 supplements are used to prevent side effects of aging but they are also used to help reduce the risk of preeclampsia . Studies were published in the International Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics stating that Co-Q10 supplementation appears to be safe and results in a significant reduction in the rate of preeclampsia. The women in this double-blind, randomised study that received 200 mg of CoQ10 a day had a 10% lower risk of developing preeclampsia. Preeclampsia (also known as toxemia) symptoms include: high blood pressure, and swelling of the hands and feet, and is the leading cause of premature babies, maternal and fetal illness and contributes to 76,000 deaths every year. If you have any signs of toxemia contact your physician immediately. CoQ-10 also has the ability to help speed healing after surgery, which will be especially beneficial for those who have c- sections.

How much C0-Q10 should I take?

200 mg of CoQ10 is the clinically proven amount to help reduce the risk of preeclampsia by 10%.

Best source of Co-Q10

Our bodies are able to produce Co-Q10 naturally, but as we age our supply of Co-Q10 starts to dwindle. Some of the foods we eat are good sources of Co-Q10: unprocessed broccoli, spinach, peanuts, whole grains, eggs and pork and beef liver. Look for a high-quality prenatal vitamin with the recommended daily allowance of Co-Q10 to protect you and your baby from the deadly risks associate with preeclampsia.
